Saskatchewan Teacher Certification
Application Procedures
All applicants must submit the following before eligibility for a teaching certificate will be determined:
- Completed and signed application form.
- Official transcripts for all post-secondary education (including transcripts from each university, college, vocational/technical institution attended). Transcripts must be sent directly to Teacher Services from the institute.
- Verified* copy of your Canadian Social Insurance Number (i.e. your card or a letter from a government agency such as a GST refund, an Income Tax Notice of Assessment or a Child Tax Credit).
- Verified* copy of your birth certificate.
- Verified* copy of your marriage certificate/name change certificate if you have changed your name.
- Official Statement of Professional Standing from the last jurisdiction in which you were authorized to teach. This statement must be sent directly to Teacher Services from the education authority.
- Other information or documents may be requested if necessary.
*Verified means: a photocopy signed by a lawyer, notary public, commissioner of oaths, principal or director of education who can attest that "this is a true copy of the original document." If you wish to forward original documents, they will be returned to you.
Applicants who received their professional teacher education in Saskatchewan must also submit:
- $75 certification fee - non-refundable (cheque or money order payable in Canadian funds to the Minister of Finance).
Note: All cheques dishonoured by the payerıs financial institution will be assessed an administration fee of $10.
- Letter of confirmation
from the College/Faculty of Education, confirming that you have met the requirements for your degree and informing us when you will convocate -- if applying before your convocation date. This letter must be sent directly to Teachers Services from the university.
Applicants who received their professional teacher education outside Saskatchewan must also submit:
- Teacherıs certificate or proof of eligibility to hold a teaching certificate in the jurisdiction where teacher education was obtained (i.e. verified* copy of teaching certificate or letter of eligibility from the education authority). *Verified means: a photocopy signed by a lawyer, notary public, commissioner of oaths, principal or director of education who can attest that "this is a true copy of the original document." If you wish to forward original documents, they will be returned to you.
- Official high school transcript (if high school standing is not confirmed on your university transcript or was completed outside Canada).
- $75 evaluation fee
(cheque or money order payable in Canadian funds to the Minister of Finance)
- $75 certification fee
(cheque or money order payable in Canadian funds to the Minister of Finance). If you are eligible for a provisional certificate, you will receive a letter of confirmation. On the basis of this letter you may seek employment as a teacher in Saskatchewan. Your certificate will be issued when you receive employment as a teacher or substitute teacher in Saskatchewan and we receive payment of the $75 certification fee.
